Essilor's educational myopia event blasts off

Essilor hosted a Class of Myopia event at its London showroom on November 29 where it educated families via a space-themed quest.

The supplier created the Eyestar Mission, which was a new classroom-based programme for children to follow the adventures of space characters and earn badges.

Gizem Topdagi, Stellest junior product and category manager at EssilorLuxottica, said: ‘The session combined short videos, activities and key learnings for a comprehensive and memorable experience.

‘It also covered some useful take home lifestyle advice to help slow down the onset and progression of myopia, as well as raising awareness of myopia control optical solutions, such as Essilor Stellest lenses.’

Eye care professionals were able to host the Eyestar Mission in practice or at a local school by speaking to their Essilor business development manager.

Lauren Vanderplan attended the event with her nine-year-old son and said it was an engaging and interactive event that gave her son more confidence with managing his own myopia.

‘I certainly learnt a few things, too. It's fantastic to see Essilor raising awareness of myopia, how to combat it, and empowering parents with the knowledge to spot the early signs - something I wish I'd known sooner as a mum,’ she said.

Essilor also partnered with Mumsnet.com and hosted ‘ask the expert’ Q&A sessions in November on the website to engage with parents.
