The European Federation of Optical Industries (Eurom 1) vowed to continue its international fight for vision screening for children aged under five at its recent annual meeting in Rome.
Professor Mario Stirpe and Professor Marco Centofanti of the Bietti Foundation pointed out that issues such as amblyopia during the first years of life were difficult to cure if they were not diagnosed early. Prevention was necessary but mandatory eyesight tests were not the same in all European countries.
A round table with other European organisations was held with the aim of agreeing on common actions for protecting children's vision and the aspects of road safety linked to vision.
