European optics integration on show in Berlin

Delegates were treated to lectures, workshops and seminars at the event

A record number of delegates from around Europe and beyond descended on Berlin last weekend for the eighth annual conference of the European Academy of Optometry and Optics (EAOO) which took place in Berlin last weekend.

The event, held to coincide with the spring meeting of the European Council of Optometry and Optics (ECOO) was opened by incoming EAOO president Dr Mireia Pacheco-Cutillas. He emphasised the importance of the conference’s networking and knowledge sharing opportunities, along with how best to face the challenges faced by practitioners.

Key to this was the combination of parallel tracks of lectures, workshops and seminars interspersed with social events, the highlight of which was a black-tie dinner cruise along the river Spree. Keynote speakers included Professor Mark Bullimore who gave an update on the evidence for myopia intervention techniques. The US-based optometrist explained how his initial scepticism about such techniques had changed and he now enthused about the potential for slowing down myopia.
