Eye care at care homes returns

Specsavers has highlighted how its practitioners have started to return to residential care homes to provide eye care to vulnerable patients.

It said care home residents had missed out on sight tests during the pandemic but would be able to access services again because of the vaccine rollout.

Julie Benson, optometrist at Specsavers, noted the multiple’s research which found that 42% of the population has experienced sight deterioration since March 2020.

‘I’m acutely aware of the impact this has on my elderly, vulnerable customers’ lives. Poor sight often means they can’t enjoy their usual hobbies, which can make them feel isolated from those around them and stops them seeing their loved ones on a video call,’ she said.
