Specialist surfacing and glazing laboratory Eye Index of St Ives, Huntingdon, has continued to invest to meet the growing demand for base-8 sports and fashion wraps.
The company has focused on two main areas of investment – staff training and further roll out of the ‘Labman’ integrated ophthalmic laboratory management system, giving more overall capacity for base-8, with greater manufacturing efficiency and customer focus. It has also introduced new products in the prescription base-8 market, with the recent launch of NXT performance sun lenses produced with Trivex.
Eye Index director Tony Harris said NXT was an ideal partner for base-8, adding that glazing the lens, in common with other base-8 lens options, remained a specialist job.
‘We have seen a year-on-year increase in demand for base-8 of around 10 per cent and we need to ensure that a constantly evolving range of lenses can be made available to sports and fashion prescription wearers. However, the key to making the best of the latest technology, and expanding dispensing opportunities, lies in the expertise and effectiveness of glazing the product,’ he said.
‘With the additional capability of surfacing for base-8 prescription products we are able to offer the complete service. The technology and specialist glazing expertise we have in base-8, added to our experience in complex Rx glazing work, helps us remain one of the industry pioneers in this specialist type of prescription work,’ added Harris.
