Publication of the report last Thursday coincided with the launch of the charity's 'eyedentity' initiative which aims to target the key groups most at risk from avoidable sight loss because of their failure to have regular eye examinations.

The results of the wide-ranging consumer study revealed that time-starved, cash-strapped parents are failing to care for their children's sight. Findings revealed that 50 per cent of parents with children aged eight and under have never taken them for an eye examination.
