A tie-up between computing firm Spectral Edge and the Colour Blind Awareness organisation will see the testing of new EyeTeq image-enhancement technology.

The new technology, using mathematical perception models to modify image colours to improve visibility of video content for colour blind observers, also minimised the strength of the effect for those who did not have colour blindness, it was claimed.

Direct feedback on the experience for colour blind viewers as well as colour normal was to be gathered by the trial, with an eventual goal for consumer electronics companies to deliver TV devices that are more colour blind friendly, a statement added. Results were expected within 6-9 months, said Spectral Edge, a spin-out company of the Colour and Vision Group of the School of Computing Sciences at the University of East Anglia in Norwich.
