Eyewear Africa is seeking independent practices to sell its bamboo sunglasses under the Bambooka brand.
Baz van Cranenburgh, who is leading the volunteer-run venture, said the money raised from the sale of the sunglasses would be used to fund sustainable development in the Eastern Cape area of South Africa through the charity Pepe.
Last year Eyewear Africa supported the start of a bamboo plantation at Amasame in conjunction with a food security project.
Eventually, van Cranenburgh hopes that a workshop would enable local people to make the bamboo eyewear. He said the eyewear was stylish, comfortable and light and would appeal to a wide range of buyers. Details: baz@bambooka.org
