LOCSU is to assess the feasibility of submitting a tender to the DVLA for the visual fields testing central contract replacing the existing model in which the DVLA contracts with businesses (News 21.09.12).

According to LOCSU, the fundamental objective of its bid would be to adapt its existing IT infrastructure so that administrative and management costs were kept to a minimum, maximising fees paid to practices.

It said the decision to explore the submission of a tender came after it received a number of enquiries from local optical committees asking it to bid.
