The German company announced that it had increased its unit sales of spectacles to 1.37 million in the three months January to March, an improvement of 10.1 per cent.
Sales were E212.8m (+9.7 per cent) and pre-tax profits were E21m (+12.4 per cent).
'Despite continued restraint among consumers, Fielmann is planning an increase in sales and profits for the year 2003,' said a spokesman for the company.
In 2002 the company generated sales of E807m, up 6 per cent on 2001, with net income for the year increased by 14.8 per cent to E45m. In its annual report for last year the company said that it has 9,900 employees and 506 branches.
