A decision by authorities in the United Arab Emirates to destroy 143,700 pairs of counterfeit Ray-Ban sunglass frames has been welcomed by Luxottica, manufacturer of Ray-Ban originals.
The fakes were discovered during a raid at a China Optical Center distributor, which was fined $4,000. Further infringement of UAE law could result in an enforced closure for the business for up to six months.
