First institutions meet new education standards

The first education providers will deliver ophthalmic dispensing undergraduate qualifications under the GOC’s new education and training requirements to a cohort of students due in September 2023.

The Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) will be an awarding organisation, with various centres offering their Level 6 Diploma in Ophthalmic Dispensing qualification, while University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) will be delivering a BSc (Hons) Ophthalmic Dispensing qualification.

We continue to work with each provider to ensure a smooth transition to the new requirements so that incoming students are prepared to meet the future needs of patients.’
