Faulty reading glasses that could cause headaches and other symptoms are widely available on the UK high street, found a latest study.
An investigation published by Which? this month asked an optometrist to assess 18 pairs of ready-made spectacles bought from 11 high street chains.
He reported that the magnification was correct across all samples, but other faults were found in eight pairs of glasses, including a pair from Boots where some of the lenses were not centred correctly.
‘These faults could cause symptoms in the wearer, from headaches to eye strain, slight dizziness and even double vision,’ the Which? report said, adding that price was not a reliable indicator of quality in the study.
