A report into botched NHS cataract operations performed by Vanguard Healthcare on behalf of Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton has found that procedures were painful and rushed.
An article published by BBC News Somerset said the report found that three patients needed additional surgery due to retention of lens matter, two suffered eye burns and six were found to have microscopic metallic fragments in their eyes. In total, 37 out of 64 patients experienced complications.
Private medical firm Vanguard Healthcare was drafted in by the hospital to clear a backlog of cataract surgery patients and had planned to carry out 400 procedures.
The hospital had intended to restrict the report to internal publication, but details were released after a Freedom of Information request.
