FMO welcomes optical bodies for annual event

Optrafair’s role as a rallying point for optics and as a provider of funds for charity and optical lobbying were raised at the Federation of Manufacturing Opticians’ Annual General Meeting and lunch last week.

Representatives from most of the optical bodies were present at the event said outgoing chairman John Conway. He said the day was an opportunity for competition in the market to be put to one side and an afternoon spent in camaraderie.

The occasion was also an opportunity to mark the appointment of David Cartwright as the chairman of next September’s National Eye Health Week and make a number of presentations. Lens focus group members Preston Everard and Gary Golden were recognised for their work over the last two years and Michelle Derbyshire of the ABDO College made a presentation to Frank Norville for his support. A cheque for £5,850 was accepted by Kingsley Sleep on behalf of the Optical Workers Benevolent Fund and Dr Natalie Briggs, chief executive officer of Vision Aid Overseas, accepted a cheque for £400 representing the money the FMO would have spent on Christmas cards.
