London-based laser eye surgery practice Focus Clinics has become the first in the UK to offer Ray-Tracing guided Lasik surgery, a new technology designed to enhance vision beyond 20/20.
The technique used the Sightmap scanner, which mapped over 100,000 data points to create a digital twin of the patient’s eye. The model allowed for highly customised Lasik treatment with potentially fewer side effects.
A clinical study, published in the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, found that 8% of treated eyes achieved 20/10 vision; 51% reached 20/12.5 vision or better; and 89% achieved 20/16 vision or better.
David Allamby, founder of Focus Clinics, said: ‘We’re thrilled to be the first in the UK to offer this revolutionary technology. The potential to achieve vision far better than 20/20 in most patients is great news.’
