Student dispensing optician has forged signature case dismissedA student dispensing optician alleged to have forged signatures on her pre-qualification period tracking sheets has had her case dismissed by a General Optical Council fitness to practice committee.

The allegation against Donna Cutler was made after ABDO queried some of the supervisor signatures on her tracking sheets. Three out of seven supervisors denied that some of the signatures purporting to be theirs were genuine.

The three supervisors gave evidence during the hearing. Two recognised their signatures and the third told the committee that he signed the supervision records on a daily basis, but also admitted to habitually block signing. According to the committee, none of the witnesses gave impressive evidence.

The committee said the registrant had nothing to gain by forging the signatures as she has accumulated more than enough hours for her needs and that it could not prove that the signatures were forged.
