South West optical practice Haine & Smith has marked its 40th anniversary with an evening of celebration at Bowood Hotel near Calne, marked with a welcome address from the former Archbishop of Canterbury.

It echoed the firms tenth anniversary celebrations at Bowood House in 1985.

Founding Partners Sue Haine and Barry Smith invited their workforce back to Bowood last month, as 100 members of staff from across Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire came together to enjoy a three-course dinner and dancing.

The former Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord George Carey also addressed staff.

Senior partner Barry Smith said: ‘The fact we remain a local independent group after four decades in optics is something Sue and I both feel immensely proud of, so it was really important to us that we brought the entire Haine & Smith team together to celebrate this achievement.
