A former Labour MP who was threatening legal action against a PCT which refused to fund Lucentis to treat wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD) has given up her fight on advice of her consultant.
As reported in Optician, (February 20), Alice Mahon, who had lost the sight in one eye due to AMD, had pledged to mount a legal challenge in the High Court to force Calderdale PCT to fund the drug Lucentis which had been shown in trials to stabilise or improve the condition.
She was diagnosed with AMD two months earlier after being referred by her optician to Calderdale Royal Hospital.
