In what is Fraud Awareness Month (November 9 to December 9), a former Specsavers store boss from Merthyr Tydfil is in court accused of defrauding Bro Taf Health Authority of £56,000.

Roger King who was a director of the store from 1993 to 2003 was accused at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court of bullying his staff into helping in the fraud, according to a report in the South Wales Echo (November 7).

King has pleaded not guilty to the charge of conspiracy to defraud the health authority.

Three former senior female staff, two of them manageresses, including King's sister-in-law, had pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud and will be sentenced at a later date.
