ABDO, AOP and FODO have been in negotiations with the Counter Fraud and Security Management Service (CFSMS) about its plan to visit every practice to review their POS checks procedure (News, April 23).
The bodies' members have objected to the plan, saying that the 'walk-in' approach would not be appropriate. FODO executive director Bob Hughes admitted that 'perhaps practices are not as rigorous as they should be, but this exercise will not improve the situation'.
'While we are extremely keen to work with them, we have no confidence that what they're planning will have any value to anyone, or that they have worked out their objectives or strategy,' he added.
The bodies advise members to ask patients about eligibility, and if no evidence is produced, to check the relevant box.
