Complimentary eye examinations are set to continue in Scotland when a review of community services has been completed later this year, Scottish health secretary Shona Robison has announced.
The government review will consider the role eye care services play within the wider NHS – a decade on from the introduction of free NHS eye examinations resulting in a 29% increase in the number of tests.
Robison said: ‘Let me be clear that we are committed to retaining free NHS eye examinations, and the review won’t change this.
‘Ten years on, the time is now right to look again at how our community eye-care services are working – particularly in the context of the developments we are making to primary care.
