
Free personal protective equipment (PPE) for workers in health and care sectors, which included primary care optical practices, has been extended by the government until March 2023.
The extension would last till next year or until infection prevention and control guidance for Covid-19 was withdrawn or significantly amended.
A consultation was carried out in October, 2021 and considered the trajectory of the pandemic, the need to protect healthcare workers and the impact on PPE businesses.
The main sectors responding to the Department of Health and Social Care’s (DHSC) consultation were social care (37% of responses), primary care (36%) and community health care (8%).
