Sheffield optician Alex Gage is supporting National Glaucoma Awareness Week (June 6-12) by offering glaucoma field tests free of charge with every eye examination booked during this period.
To mark the event, the company is encouraging anyone with a history of glaucoma or who may be experiencing the early signs of the disease to make an appointment.
The Sheffield company also provides specialist advice on specific sports-related eye care. Owner Alex Gage recently received a sports vision diploma from the Sports Vision Association (SVA).
'Any person involved in sport knows that if they're not perfectly focused then they cannot perform to their best,' said Gage. 'Many forms of eyewear can hinder physical activity and I can advise on the best alternatives to ensure their eyes don't let them down.
'Over the years we have seen a number of patients with damaged retinas who have been involved in physical exercise and have not used adequate eye protection. Prevention is always better than cure and we are hoping to continue working with the SVA to promote good practice in the region.'
