A pair of Mahatma Gandhi’s glasses have greatly exceeded expectations at auction

A pair of Mahatma Gandhi’s glasses have greatly exceeded expectations by selling for £260,000 at auction.

East Bristol Auctioneers expected the gold plated circular rimmed spectacles to fetch £10,000-£15,000 (News, 14.8.20).

‘It’s a phenomenal result,’ commented auctioneer Andrew Stowe. ‘These glasses represent not only an auction record for us, but a find of international historical importance.

‘These glasses have been lying in a drawer for the best part of 50 years. The vendor literally told me to throw them away if they were “no good”. Now he gets a life-changing sum of money.’
