Following a short illness optometrist Gerald Drew has died aged 87.

Drew, founder of GJ Drew & Partners Optometrists in Cleethorpes, was born in Northern India in 1924 into a military family. He left school in 1943 and enlisted in the Royal Air Force. Drew was posted to Southern Rhodesia where he gained his pilot's wings. He was released from the RAF in 1947 and married his wife Muriel two years later after moving to Grimsby.

Drew's first job in optics was with Keeler as a junior technician in London, before completing a course in Applied Optics and Ophthalmics at Northampton Polytechnic and qualifying as an ophthalmic optician in 1956.
