The AOP has shared advice on the use of ghost clinics

Advice on the use of ghost clinics during the pandemic has been clarified by the Association of Optometrists (AOP) following, what it called, a ‘misunderstanding’ about its position.

The professional body noted that it did not endorse the use of ghost clinics when it said it ‘may make good business sense’ and was acknowledging a fact.

It added that when it said it can be ok to book additional appointments when there is a high no-show rate, it did so based on the presumption that businesses could to be trusted to act responsibly.

Ghost clinics should not be run as standard or default practice and practitioners should not be expected to miss breaks or work longer hours in order to see more patients, the AOP added.
