The Department of Health has come under fire for the lack of official data available on the provision of vision screening of school children and initiatives to encourage early detection of eye problems in young people.
Sandra Gidley, Liberal Democrat MP for Romsey and chair of the All Party Eye Health Group, told Optician she was disappointed by the written response she received this week on behalf of the Secretary of State for Health on this issue.
Last week in a written question to Parliament, Gidley asked the minister what assessment he had made of the level of provision of eye tests in schools and whether he planned to increase these.
