Glasgow Caledonian University optometry student Romana Khaliq (pictured) has claimed third prize in the 2016 CooperVision Force Student of the Year awards.

The contact lens company named its overall winner as Izabela Garaszczuk, a student from Wroclaw University of Technology in Poland.

Last month’s Force (Future Ocular Research Creativity Event) final took place at CooperVision’s Centre of Innovation in Budapest, Hungary last month. Students and educators from nine countries took part.

Khaliq, who was last year named as CooperVision’s UK student of the year, was credited for her study on tear evaporation rates between hydrogel and silicone hydrogel materials under different environmental conditions.

Last year’s overall winner Fiona Buckmaster, also from Glasgow Caledonian, attended the final to describe her experiences since winning. She had attended the Nederlands Contactlens Congres in March and spent time volunteering in Africa.
