Glaucoma UK launches research fellowship

Glaucoma UK launched a three-year Pitts Crick career development post-doctoral fellowship to mark its golden jubilee anniversary and named after the charity’s UK founder Ronald Pitts Crick.

The charity said the fellowship would support a dedicated early-career researcher with a track record of delivering impactful research projects and the ambition to become an influential glaucoma specialist.

Joanne Creighton, Glaucoma UK chief executive, said: ‘Only 1.3% of health research in the UK is invested specifically in eye health. That is why it is an incredible opportunity for our charity to be able to support an early-career researcher to build on the legacy of Ronald Pitts Crick and other researchers to improve glaucoma care.’

Professor David ‘Ted’ Garway-Heath, UK glaucoma professor of ophthalmology at University College London (UCL), and consultant surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital, added: ‘I am proud of Glaucoma UK’s investment in this important work. I am committed to promoting the charity’s mission and I also look forward to supporting the recipient of this fellowship in their journey to transform glaucoma care through research.’

Application outline proposals must be submitted by May 31 and full applications, by September 22.
