Glitter Eyes lose a little sparkle

Ciba Vision is conducting a voluntary recall of its Glitter Eyes soft contact lenses in the US.

The recall has come about because the lenses do not meet the Novartis company's 'strict quality standards'.
A spokeswoman for Ciba Vision told optician: 'It was determined that the layers of the lens can partially delaminate, causing the pigments encapsulated within the lens to smear, smudge or pool. We have not received any reports of adverse events with the lenses, and we are confident the likelihood of any such event is low.
'Also, because all pigments remain encapsulated within the lens material, we believe that any such issues will be limited to changes in the cosmetic effect of the lens, minor discomfort and inconvenience.'
She said the company was closely examining the Glitter Eyes development and manufacturing process, and that specific instructions on the return of the lenses have already been provided directly to practitioners and distributors who received the lenses. Glitter Eyes have only been available so far in the US and Canada.
