Global eye care in need of aid

International governments are being urged not to ignore the right to sight for the global millions suffering from avoidable vision loss and are being encouraged to recognise the need for investment in eye care research in the current difficult trading climate.

The plea was made by Professor Brien Holden, chief executive officer of the Institute for Eye Research, during his a lecture for the Delta Gamma Foundation on healthcare values and ethics at the University of Houston.

Focusing on the opportunities, responsibilities and challenges facing the world from a healthcare perspective, Professor Holden outlined a detailed plan of eye care action that he claimed would restore sight to hundreds of millions around the world.
