Future scopes of practice for both optometrists and DOs were expected to increase, including a greater role in primary care. Respondents also believed that the GOC should be mindful that the rate of change was likely to differ in each of the four nations of the UK, in findings released in November (News 19.11.14).

GOC director of strategy Alistair Bridge said: ‘The responses to our Call for Evidence were very insightful and helped us to identify the areas that we need to address in our standards review. We are delighted that such a wide spectrum of stakeholders responded to the consultation, giving us an up-to-date picture of how the delivery of optical care is likely to change.’
