GOC claims High Court victory

A dispensing optician erased from the General Optical Council register last year has lost a High Court appeal against the ruling, the Council has announced.

Ronald Preedy was ordered to pay the GOC's costs after the High Court upheld the decision of its fitness to practise committee. Preedy was erased by the GOC in April 2011 after being convicted of defrauding the NHS four years previously, by carrying out sight tests and claiming back from local PCTs (News 29.04.11).

The Council announced the victory at its latest public meeting but was unable to confirm the amount of court costs involved. 'We will be making no further comment at this time,' it said.
