At the July 2 meeting of the GOC, members approved the final accounts for the financial year 2008-9, with expenditure totalling £4,018,773, £47,094 over budget.

It attributed increasing costs to restructuring, appointing a new Council and other initiatives for the implementation of the government white paper, Trust Assurance and Safety, as well as increased legal costs.

Staff costs for the year were nearly £60,000 under budget due to staff turnover and totalled £1,584,950, while expenditure on fitness to practise hearings was £358,546.

The GOC also agreed a process for recruiting 40-50 committee members and will establish an appointments board to be made up in the short term of members of the GOC senior executive team, a number of council members and some external administration support.
