GOC dismisses student appeal

A student dispensing optician has had his appeal for restoration to the student registers of the General Optical Council dismissed by the regulator's registration appeals committee.

The committee said Wasim Ghulam had been on its registers between October 19 2007 and September 1 2008, and November 10 2010 and September 1 2011. On his application for restoration in March 2012, Ghulam was reported to have said he was in the third year of a training course for dispensing opticians at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, despite stating he had not undertaken any training during periods of non-registration. His application was also said to have a number of other inaccuracies and errors.

Ghulam was said by the committee to have a negligible grasp of the importance of giving full and correct disclosure of information to his regulatory body.
