GOC erases Shifnal DO

A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee has erased Shifnal-based DO, Timothy Vanes

A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee has erased Shifnal-based DO, Timothy Vanes, from its register with immediate effect.

Vanes was sentenced to a community order by Shrewsbury Crown Court in March 2020 for the possession of extreme pornographic images of animals and over 6,000 indecent images of children. He avoided jailtime because he had voluntarily sought out the services of the Lucy Faithfull Foundation, a charity which provides resources to rehabilitate people who view sexual images of children, cooperated with police and showed genuine remorse.

The GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found his fitness to practise impaired on grounds of public protection and public interest, in relation to his convictions.

Vanes’ formerly owned his own practice in Shifnal, Tim Vanes Opticians, but the premises was taken over by SR Drinnan Opticians in March last year and has resumed business under new management.
