Student dispensing optician is erased by the GOC from its register

A student dispensing optician has been erased by the GOC from its register.

Arzoo Maqsood from Peterborough was found to have her fitness to train impaired by reason of misconduct by a GOC Fitness to Practise committee. This was related to manufacturing documents to support a fraudulent application to gain a place on a BSc Optometry degree course.

Chaired by Anne Johnstone, the committee, said: ‘The Committee was not satisfied that the registrant had developed satisfactory insight into the seriousness of her actions. In the light of the registrant’s oral evidence and in particular, her repeated attempts to minimise her responsibility for what had occurred, the Committee could not be satisfied that the risk of further dishonest conduct was low.’
