GOC extends temporary changes

Amendments to its Optometry Handbook and supervision policy will be extended

The General Optical Council (GOC) has announced that temporary amendments to its Optometry Handbook and supervision policy will be extended for the 2021/22 and 2022/23 academic years.

A decision was made to extend the changes because of ongoing uncertainty around the Coronavirus pandemic, a GOC statement explained.

First introduced in August 2020, the amendments were intended to enable clinical experience to be delivered despite limitations on clinical practice. Changes included reducing the amount of clinical hours students needed to complete and broadening the scope of what could be counted towards these hours.
