As a practitioner it’s always good to be able to challenge yourself by using your knowledge and experience in new areas. It’s also great to be able to give something back to the professions.
With that in mind, I would strongly encourage readers to apply for one of the vacancies on the General Optical Council’s Investigation Committee.
This Committee considers concerns that a registrant may not be fit to practise. Members meet in private and decide, on the basis of information provided, whether a case should be sent to the Fitness to Practise Committee for a public hearing.
Membership of the Investigation Committee is a rewarding, challenging role. As well as helping the GOC to protect the public, it is a great opportunity for personal development. The work is challenging, varied and you’ll be able to learn from the experience of your committee colleagues as well as sharing your own.
There are three vacancies for two optometrists and a DO. The GOC is keen to receive applications from women and/or ethnic minorities. If you’re keen to use your skills to help protect the public and uphold confidence in the professions, then I’d strongly encourage you to apply.
