There should be no change to CET arrangements beyond 2010 and the current scheme should remain unchanged for the foreseeable future, a recent consultation of stakeholders has concluded.
The recommendation to keep the scheme unchanged was due to be made by the GOC's CET Policy and Development Group at a meeting of Council members in Belfast after Optician went to press this week.
The consultation, which closed on January 31 2008, sought views on issues such as how CET is delivered and whether there should be a cap on the number of CET points earned through modalities such as journal-based assessments.
As reported in Optician, (News, September 21), industry insiders had expressed concerns about low attendance figures at CET events and the growing reliance on journal-based mechanisms to earn points.
