A consultation on the General Optical Council’s approach to illegal practice has been officially launched with the regulator calling on the profession to respond.

Its proposed strategy, covering misrepresentation of title and online contact lens sales that do not comply with UK law, would look to raise awareness among wearers and promote a voluntary code of practice for online contact lens suppliers.

Alistair Bridge, GOC director of policy and communications, said: ‘It will be vital for all interested parties to work together to effectively tackle these issues, so I look forward to hearing our stakeholders’ views on the proposed strategy and how we can collaborate to take it forward.’
