GOC outlines plans to continue regulating during coronavirus

The regulator has outlined how it will continue to regulate

Information has been published by the General Optical Council on how it will continue to regulate during the ongoing coronavirus (Covid-19) situation.

It said that the plans are designed to ensure that registrants receive the right advice and support in order to deliver appropriate care for patients should the virus spread further.

A joint statement has been issued from the chief executives of statutory regulators of health and care professionals, which encourages the use of professional judgement to assess the risk of delivering care by consulting relevant guidance.

The statement said: ‘We recognise that in highly challenging circumstances, professionals may need to depart from established procedures in order to care for patients and people using health and social care services. Our regulatory standards are designed to be flexible and to provide a framework for decision-making in a wide range of situations.’
