GOC publishes anti-racism statement

An anti-racism statement has been published by the GOC

An anti-racism statement has been published by the General Optical Council (GOC) as part of its commitment to embed equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) within its processes.

The statement highlighted that GOC staff had reflected on their own privileges, listened and had discussions about Black Lives Matter as well as systemic racism.

Lesley Longstone, GOC chief executive and registrar at the GOC, said: ‘Over the past several months, we have been reflecting on our commitment to anti-racism and EDI and how we can ensure it is embedded in everything we do.’

She explained that an anti-racism group would be set up, which would review its structures, processes and practices, and added that there would be opportunities for practitioners to be involved.
