GOC recruits for chair

A recruitment drive for a new lay chair has been launched by the Council

A recruitment drive for a new lay chair has been launched by the General Optical Council.

The appointee will replace Gareth Hadley when he stands down in February 2021.

The chair of the GOC has to be a lay person independent of the optical professions and as such, the position is not open to applicants who have ever been registered with the GOC.

The job description, listed by specialist executive recruiter Odgers Berndtson, said the successful candidate would ‘exercise high level governance skills and form relationships with stakeholders to steer the organisation through a transformational programme of regulatory reform.’

Remuneration was quoted as £50,000 for an average time commitment of two-and-a-half days per week.
