GOC removes 171 registrants after renewal deadline passes

Total of 140 individual practitioners and 31 bodies corporate miss deadline

More than 170 registrants are no longer allowed to practice after they failed to renew registration with the General Optical Council for the year 2017-18.

A total of 140 individual practitioners and 31 bodies corporate failed to meet the March 31 deadline. Of the 140 individual registrants, 51 were OOs and 89 were DOs. The figures account for less than 1% of the register.

Registrants who wish to continue practising or carrying on business, must now immediately apply for restoration at a cost of £420. Individual practitioners must also provide evidence of having met the necessary CET requirements in the past 12 months.
