coeThe General Optical Council has removed 442 registrants from its register for failure to renew their registration for 2008/09.

Figures released by the Council reveal that included in that total are 184 optometrists, 179 dispensing opticians and 79 corporate bodies.

'Registration is not a trivial issue - it is fundamental to public protection,' said GOC registrar Peter Coe.
