GOC repeats warning over bogus callers

Practitioners warned about bogus calls purporting to be from the GOC asking for employee details.

Practitioners are being warned about bogus calls made to practices purporting to be from the General Optical Council (GOC) asking for employee details.

The Council has issued a warning that these enquires are not legitimate and that it would normally request this type of information in writing and not via a telephone call.

This is not the first time practitioners have been targeted with bogus calls. As reported in Optician last November, the GOC issued a warning at that time that practices were being targeted by bogus calls from unscrupulous headhunters.

The optical watchdog issued a warning to practices that the callers were duping receptionists into supplying details of the professional staff on site. The callers were then targeting optometrists as candidates for jobs elsewhere.
