Practitioners will have an opportunity to debate whether they should be legally required to report concerns about their own or a colleague's fitness to practise, as part of the General Optical Council consultation into the changes to the codes of conduct for individual and business registrants.
The GOC will be holding a discussion on April 16 in London to prompt debate about some of the key changes affecting registrants as a result of the changes to its codes of conduct. The Council is encouraging practitioners, patient groups, optical bodies, and employers to attend.
A consultation on the revised codes of conduct was launched in January. Changes are proposed to 14 areas of the codes. Issues under consideration include: 'What kinds of behaviour, while practising or not, should put a person's registration at risk?' Also, 'Do the codes of conduct do enough to promote equality and diversity?'
