Registrants who fail to get the required amount of CET points by December 31 must make up the shortfall by March 15, 2010 or they will be removed from the General Optical Council (GOC) registers on April 1.
According to the GOC, those that are removed from the registers because of a failure to earn enough points will not be able to work until they have been restored.
Currently 2,765 registrants do not have enough CET points to maintain their GOC registration. However, 86 per cent of optometrists and 82 per cent of dispensing opticians have already completed their minimum points requirement.
